Is Hypnotherapy for Anxiety
right for me?
Like all animals,we as human beings have evolved ways to help us protect ourselves from danger and external threats. When we feel under threat, our bodies react by releasing certain hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which can be helpful. These hormones:
-
make us feel aware and alert, so at the point of danger, we can react more appropriately
-
make our hearts beat faster, quickly sending blood to where it's needed most.
After we feel the threat has passed and we feel safe again, our bodies release other hormones to help our muscles relax. This can sometimes cause us to shake.
This is commonly called the 'fight, flight or freeze' response – it's something that happens automatically in our bodies, and we have no control over it.
Causes of Anxiety
Why do I feel
Anxious?
It often seems to be the way we see the world and ourselves within it, that may well be the biggest factor in experiencing Anxiety. Some of these factors may involve.
-
How we relate to things around us? People, situations etc.
-
How we relate to ourselves and the way we think we are.
-
How we see our relationships and our role in them.
-
How we relate to the future, what we may fear.
-
How the past may have affected the way we see life.
The wonderful thing about Hypnotherapy for Anxiety is it can help to adapt their thought patterns and even reshape how they feel about the experiences that they have had over their life.
There is a strong link to anxiety and earlier emotional challenges, particularly in childhood and the earlier years of adulthood, when we are more easily influenced. That doesn't necessarily have to mean abuse or neglect; it can be subtle developmental factors that we are all exposed to.
There are of course, physiological reasons that can exacerbate the symptoms and experience of anxiety. For example it is known that those going through menopause and also those with Thyroid issues are more prone to experiencing symptoms of anxiety. Although these things can exasperate a situation or feeling, they are seldom the actual cause.
is important to keep in mind - Anxiety isn't simply your thoughts. It is a full-body experience that your nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, endocrine (hormonal) systems and digestive systems all have a role to play in the experience of Anxiety. Although everything is driven by ideas, thoughts and concepts often held unconsciously.

The Brain and Anxiety
What really is Anxiety?
Feeling Anxious is a complex emotion that can be described as a feeling of apprehension or fear about the future, often accompanied by physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, sweating, and muscle tension. In the context of psychology, anxiousness and some anxiety, is considered a normal and adaptive response to stress or danger, but when it becomes chronic or excessive, it can interfere with daily life.
The brain structures involved in anxiety include the amygdala, which is responsible for processing emotions, particularly fear, and the prefrontal cortex, which is involved in decision-making and regulating emotional responses. The amygdala plays a crucial role in the fear response by triggering the release of stress hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline, and activating the sympathetic nervous system, which leads to physical symptoms of anxiety.
The nervous system also plays a key role in anxiety, with the sympathetic nervous system responsible for the "fight or flight" response, and the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for calming the body down after a stressful event. In individuals with anxiety disorders, the sympathetic nervous system may become overactive, leading to chronic stress and heightened anxiety symptoms. This may involve repetetive thoughts about a subject matter that we peerccieve as giving us Anxiety.
Overall, anxiety is a complex emotion that involves a range of psychological, brain, and nervous system factors. Understanding these factors can help individuals with anxiety develop effective coping strategies and treatment approaches.
How can Hypnotherapy for Anxiety work for me?
Learn how Hypnotherapy for Anxiety can
help me?
This is where Hypnotherapy for anxiety can really work wonders. By using Hypnotherapy and other therapies such as NLP, we can really help to reset the nervous system and get to a point where we are reacting in accordance with our environment and not our fears. The most common two words I hear in my office is the WHAT IF pattern; even if you don't use those words, if you are experiencing anxiety, then to some degree, you are unconsciously running this pattern. So if you would like to have a different experience around Anxiety, then please feel free to contact me.
Anxiety often seems like a battle; part of our unconscious is creating this feeling. The reason may or may not be known at a conscious level. This struggle can be played out over and over again in our mind in specific locations or contexts. Although at other times, it can be all-consuming and seem to be constant. We as human beings obviously do not enjoy the feeling of being anxious and try naturally to control or resist this feeling; we also tend to externalise the feeling, meaning we feel as if something is taking over us at these times. We need to recognise that everything we feel, good or bad, is generated by our unconscious processes and is just part of us that strives for the need to feel safe.
Hypnotherapy to help with Anxiety
Can I change my experience
around Anxiety
Anxiety, as a feeling, exists to warn us of a threat, perceived or real, but whatever it is, it is really just reflecting back to us our unconsciously held beliefs. The not wanting to experience the feeling of Anxiety often ironically gives us even more Anxiety, the fear of the fear. Seeing through the illusion of the protection pattern is the way out. I can't guarantee an outcome, but there is every chance of profound change. By employing Hypnotherapy and other therapeutic techniques, I aim to help my clients not just to live with the feeling but to release the grip of the experience of Anxiety.
