Is Hypnotherapy for Emetophobia
right for me?
If you have found your way to this page, it is likely that yourself, or one of your loved ones is suffering from this condition called Emetophobia. Out of this whole website I would say that this is the most under reported form of anxiety I work with. It (Emetophobia) and I hate to call things it, but I will in this case, is much more prevalent than people realise. I have worked with many, many people suffering from this condition. I would say after a lot of experience of helping individuals overcome Emetophobia. that it is more prominent in women and young girls, but by no means exclusively. From an outside perspective it may seem as if this phobia of sick, or being sick (Normally both) wouldn't affect peoples life too much, unfortunately this is not the case. Out of all the phobias I work with and I say this with a caveat, because phobias are never really normally in isolation. But I would say this condition has the most profound affect on individuals lives. The reason being and you may know this, we use our mind as a defence system, harnessing our imagination of the "What If's". I have had clients who are fearful of any food cooked outside of their control, especially meat and particularly chicken. People scared of situations where there is a gathering of people. enclosed spaces. because what happens if they, or someone are sick. I have had numerous clients who are Mum's, or Dad's that home school their children so they feel they can control what possible viruses, or bacterial infections that may be brought into the household and could induce vomiting. Thus limiting their children's interaction with the outside world. alcohol can also be a problem for many, fearing being sick themselves, or in an environment that may feel threatening. These patterns and many others are an attempt to control our environment to feel safe, IT DOESN'T WORK.
Causes of Anxiety
Why do I feel Anxiety
about being sick?
There may be multiple reasons why our nervous system and and our unconscious mind aare triggered into the fear of Emetophobia. We need to recognise that these phobias and fears are to a large extent out of the control of our normal consciousness, whatever that is.
-
A trigger could be the reaction of a loved one, to ourselves, or maybe a sibling from a parent. The look on their face and the language and tonality used, can create a shock.
-
A young child can be overwhelmed when they don't know what's happening, with new uncomfortable feelings..
-
It can be formed, or exasperated by a sense of public embarrassment. Perhaps a child is sick at school and they other children react.
-
Its not at all unusual for a child to pick the behaviour up from a parent, or care provider, basically a learnt response.
-
It may be none of the above, but a need to control oneself, because we like to feel as if everything is in order.
The wonderful thing about Hypnotherapy for Emetophobia is it can help to adapt the our thought patterns of defence and even reshape how we feel about the experiences that we have had over our life.
There is a strong link to anxiety and earlier emotional challenges, particularly in childhood and the earlier years of adulthood, when we are more easily influenced. That doesn't necessarily have to mean abuse or neglect; it can be subtle developmental factors that we are all exposed to.
is important to keep in mind - Anxiety isn't simply your thoughts. It is a full-body experience that your nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, endocrine (hormonal) systems and digestive systems all have a role to play in the experience of Anxiety around Emetophobia. Although everything is driven by beliefs, thoughts and concepts often held unconsciously.

The Brain and Anxiety
What really is Anxiety?
Feeling Anxious is a complex emotion that can be described as a feeling of apprehension or fear about the future, often accompanied by physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, sweating, and muscle tension. In the context of psychology, anxiousness and some anxiety, is considered a normal and adaptive response to stress or danger, but when it becomes chronic or excessive, it can interfere with daily life.
The brain structures involved in anxiety include the amygdala, which is responsible for processing emotions, particularly fear, and the prefrontal cortex, which is involved in decision-making and regulating emotional responses. The amygdala plays a crucial role in the fear response by triggering the release of stress hormones, such as cortisol and adrenaline, and activating the sympathetic nervous system, which leads to physical symptoms of anxiety.
The nervous system also plays a key role in anxiety, with the sympathetic nervous system responsible for the "fight or flight" response, and the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for calming the body down after a stressful event. In individuals with anxiety disorders, the sympathetic nervous system may become overactive, leading to chronic stress and heightened anxiety symptoms. This may involve repetitive thoughts about a subject matter that we perceive as giving us Anxiety, like Anxiety for Emetophobia.
Overall, anxiety is a complex emotion that involves a range of psychological, brain, and nervous system factors. Understanding these factors can help individuals with anxiety develop new ways of seeing these patterns and changing perhaps our interpretation of fears like emetophobia, by the use of Hypnotherapy for Emetophobia.

So if you would like to have a different experience around Anxiety, then please feel free to contact me.
Anxiety often seems like a battle; part of our unconscious is creating this feeling. The reason may or may not be known at a conscious level. This struggle can be played out over and over again in our mind in specific locations or contexts. Although at other times, it can be all-consuming and seem to be constant. Trying to rationalise that we have nothing to fear really about being sick, or seeing someone else be sick, doesn't work you are just fighting your own unconscious beliefs. We as human beings obviously do not enjoy the feeling of being anxious and try naturally to control or resist this feeling; we also tend to externalise the feeling, meaning we feel as if something is taking over us at these times. We need to recognise that everything we feel, good or bad, is generated by our unconscious processes and is just part of us that strives for the need to feel safe. This is why coping strategies' really don't work.

around the Fear of

I can't guarantee an outcome, but there is every chance of profound change. By employing Hypnotherapy and other therapeutic techniques, I aim to help my clients not just to live with the feeling but to release the grip of the experience of Anxiety, by using the power of Hypnotherapy for Emetophobia.
