Hi im Tony from Enhanced Hypnotherapy. As a hypnotherapist, my job is to create connection and help people overcome their limiting beliefs. In the last few years, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a major concern for many in society who fear a future with a lack of connection. This dystopian future is already washing up on our shores. These artificial intelligences can possibly be a source of comfort for some who may be lonely, for instance. The problem is they can tend to deepen and accentuate our idiosyncrasies.#AIDangers

The Dangers of AI Therapy

AI “therapy” carries significant risks. In late July, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman cautioned ChatGPT users against using the chatbot as a “therapist” due to privacy issues. The American Psychological Association (APA) has stated that AI chatbot companies and their products engage in “deceptive practices” by “posing as trained mental health providers.” It has urged the Federal Trade Commission to investigate, referencing two ongoing lawsuits where parents claimed that chatbots caused harm to their children. In some high-profile instances, parents allege that their child committed suicide after interacting with an AI.

The issue with this is that if you are a vulnerable person seeking help from these chatbots and expressing harmful or unhealthy thoughts or behaviors, the chatbot will simply encourage you to continue. In contrast, as a therapist, while I might offer validation, I understand it’s my responsibility to highlight when you’re engaging in unhealthy or harmful thoughts and behaviors and to assist you in changing that pattern. Moreover, what’s even more concerning is when these chatbots claim to be therapists or psychologists. It’s quite alarming because they can appear very convincing and legitimate—when, in reality, they’re not.

AI may process data and respond to inquiries, but it lacks the emotional intelligence that human therapists possess. For example, while an AI can identify patterns in user responses, it cannot grasp the intricacies of human emotions. Studies show that about 70% of patients feel more understood when interacting with a human therapist compared to AI. This limitation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of AI in treating mental health issues.

I am very concerned when people treat AI tools like therapists. These tools were not created to provide mental health or emotional support. In fact, they are programmed to keep users on the platform as long as possible because that aligns with their business model. They achieve this by offering unconditional validation and support, almost to the extent of flattery

They can confirm the misery loops that we may already be in. How can this ever create change if it is a self confirming tool sucking us into our old belief patterns. This is truly dangerous! In fact if you stop to think about all of thge people i may have helped at Enhancedhypnotherapy.co.uk How many would have had the same beliefs at the end.

Understanding AI Psychosis

One of the most pressing dangers associated with AI in therapy is the risk of AI psychosis. This refers to a state where individuals develop a distorted perception of reality due to their interactions with AI systems. As people increasingly turn to AI for emotional support, they may start to blend the programmed responses from machines with authentic human understanding.

AI psychosis can manifest in several harmful ways, including heightened feelings of isolation and a detachment from reality. For instance, a study by the Journal of Mental Health found that individuals frequently relying on AI for support exhibited a 40% increase in feelings of loneliness. This trend highlights the danger of neglecting human relationships, which are essential for emotional well-being. The lack of real human interaction can result in feelings of despair and delay recovery.

I think there really could be some problems ahead for society as a whole

The Importance of Human Connection

Genuine human connection is key to effective therapy. Our brains and bodies are hardwired to respond to others, making empathy and understanding vital in psychological treatment. When someone speaks to a human therapist, they gain validation and support that AI cannot offer. At

Human therapists create a safe and nurturing space for clients to open up about their thoughts and feelings. This connection fosters trust, which is crucial for healing. In contrast, AI lacks the capacity to form real connections, resulting in clients feeling alienated and misunderstood.

Consider this: research shows that individuals who have strong therapeutic alliances with their therapists are 70% more likely to experience significant improvement in their mental health. This illustrates the vital role that empathy and connection play in therapy. As a hypnotherapist this is part of the work and from here we can often nudge our negative beliefs and create real change.

The Benefits of Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy offers a distinct approach to mental health treatment that prioritizes the importance of human connection. Unlike AI-driven therapy, hypnotherapy involves guiding clients in relaxation and focused attention facilitated by a trained professional. This technique enables individuals to reach their subconscious mind, allowing for deeper exploration of their thoughts and feelings.

One significant advantage of hypnotherapy is that it establishes a strong therapeutic alliance between the client and the therapist. This bond builds trust, enabling clients to engage with their emotional challenges in a more profound way. #HypnotherapyBenefits have been shown to improve coping mechanisms by helping clients reshape negative thoughts. A survey found that 80% of participants reported a decrease in anxiety symptoms after hypnotherapy sessions. Please check out my reviews at enhanvcedhypnotherapy.co.uk

Addressing the Lack of Empathy in AI

AI systems are inherently limited when it comes to conveying empathy. While they can mimic conversations and provide data-driven responses, they simply cannot replicate the emotional depth that human therapists bring. For people handling complex emotional issues, this limitation can be particularly harmful.

In therapy, empathy is crucial for helping clients feel understood and supported. Clients who perceive their therapists as genuinely concerned about their well-being are more likely to engage in the therapeutic process. In contrast, interactions with AI can feel cold and impersonal, leaving individuals feeling nonchalant and invalidated.#MentalHealth

The Role of the Nervous System

Our nervous systems are built to react to social cues and emotional connections. When we engage with other people, our bodies release hormones and neurotransmitters that encourage feelings of safety and warmth. This biological response is vital for effective therapy, giving individuals the security they need to explore their emotions.

AI, in contrast, cannot offer this level of biological or emotional feedback. This lack can interfere with the therapeutic process, preventing individuals from emotionally investing in their healing. This disconnect poses risks, including heightened anxiety and worsening depression symptoms. There's so much more going on with human beings than just the surface words. There are micro-expressions, body language, mirroring, and matching within that interplay of connection, as well as things like our breathing unconsciously aligning when we have rapport with others around us.

Prioritizing Human Connection With Hypnotherapy

As we consider the future of mental health care, it is crucial to recognize the potential dangers AI presents in therapeutic settings. AI psychosis, the absence of empathy, and the importance of human connection should all be cornerstones of Hypnotherapy, this cant really happen with AI therapy.

Hypnotherapy stands out as a valuable alternative that underscores the need for human connection and emotional insight. By establishing a strong therapeutic alliance, hypnotherapy can effectively guide people through their mental health challenges. In a world increasingly dominated by technology, we must prioritize the human aspects of therapy to ensure the best outcomes for those seeking help. If you have read this through, I want to point out that some, by no means all of this content was generated by AI. An AI doing a critique on itself. I know it's a bit ironic, but the truth is I'm trying to prove a point about the information out there. This isn't me just making up a story; it comes direct from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Thanks Tony.
